An original History Loves Company film · Hosted by Chris Hubel

Inside Henry Ford’s Highland Park Plant: The Factory That Changed the World

A visit to part of the Highland Park Ford complex opens a larger question: how did a new way of making cars change the people doing the work?

Go beyond the film

Look past the product to the workday.

Ford’s historical account places the successful introduction of the moving automobile assembly line at Highland Park in 1913. It also describes repetitive work, strict timing, and difficulties retaining workers. Read that company account alongside workers’ testimony and community records: production gains and lived experience are related, but they are not the same evidence.

Start with a department, job title, badge, or pay record. What can it establish about one person’s work—and which details still need another source?
