A main street rebuilt
The district’s history links commercial development to the iron-mining economy. Main Street was platted in 1869; a destructive 1874 fire was followed by substantial rebuilding in brick and stone. The nominated area generally follows Main Street between Front and Division streets, including selected adjoining properties.
