Go beyond the film

The house is not the whole story.

The City of Detroit’s neighborhood account traces Brush Park’s residential development to the 1850s, with a peak in house building during the 1870s and 1880s. Architecture offers a vivid introduction. Researching later occupants and changed uses makes that introduction a fuller neighborhood history.

A question to take with you

Choose one address. Record its first known use, one later household or business, and the source for each. What would be missing if the story ended with the original owner?
